Greening the Emerald City, One Home at a Time

CPWCommunity Power Works is driving clean energy innovation and generating economic growth by delivering energy efficiency solutions to Seattleites – more than 3,000 of whom are enjoying homes that are more efficient, healthier and safer, warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and less expensive to heat.

In 2010, Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) designed and implemented the Community Power Works program after receiving a $20 million Better Buildings Neighborhood Program grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Beginning in 2013, the Community Power Works’ residential program began transitioning from its grant-funded pilot phase to a sustainable, long-term business model. Offered in partnership with Seattle City Light, OSE, and the Washington State Community Energy Efficiency Program, Community Power Works is now managed by and enjoys regional collaboration with Portland-based non-profit Clean Energy Works.

Community Power Works’ “one-stop shop” approach helps homeowners achieve deep energy efficiency by providing:

  • An in-depth energy audit for electrically-heated and oil-heated homes.
  • A pool of City-approved contractors to install efficiency upgrades such as windows, insulation, advanced heating and cooling systems, and more.
  • Financing options for up to 100% of the cost of the upgrade with affordable rates and hassle-free loan repayments plans.
  • Ongoing customer service and energy expert support.
  • Complimentary quality oversight to ensure that the job is done right.

Through robust public-private partnerships, Community Power Works will continue to transform the way building owners, their tenants, contractors, utilities, lenders, labor, environmental groups, and the broader community engage in energy efficiency across the Emerald City.
