Senate listening session on Transportation

Whether it’s finishing sidewalks and bike lanes, filling potholes, finishing projects like SR 520, or saving King County Metro from having to make 17% cuts to its bus service, our City faces tremendous transportation challenges. One of the biggest challenges that I’m worried about is potential cuts to King County Metro.
Without new tools to resolve our ongoing transit funding shortfall, King County will need to begin shrinking Metro Transit service in 2014 by 600,000 annual service hours; Metro may have to eliminate, reduce or revise roughly two-thirds of its bus routes to close the budget gap.*
These potential cuts will affect 7 out of 10 bus riders and could put 30,000 cars back on our streets. These kind of cuts will lock our city in gridlock all day long.
