Apply by April 6 to Join Seattle’s Green New Deal Oversight Board!

Seattle’s Green New Deal Oversight Board is now accepting applications! The application will be open through April 6.

The Oversight Board is looking for passionate individuals to help provide proposals for policies and programs to the Mayor, City Council, and City departments that advance Seattle’s Green New Deal.

Seattle’s Green New Deal seeks to eliminate City climate pollution and give direct support to overburdened communities that are hit first and worst by climate change and extreme weather like floods, heat waves, and air pollution. As part of the initiative, the City makes investments in public transportation, energy efficiency, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, and more while creating job opportunities for residents and a healthier Seattle for all.

The Board is made up of representatives who have expertise and lived experiences with environmental injustices, as members collaborate closely with community. The Oversight Board is recruiting representatives with three-year term seats in the following areas:

  • Tribal (seat will be filled through direct consultation with Tribes)
  • Labor
  • Workforce Training Specialists
  • Environmental Justice Organizations
  • Emissions Reduction Specialists (experience in greenhouse gas reduction and/or climate resiliency strategies relevant to cities)

Serving on the Board

Oversight Board members are expected to spend 6-8 hours a month on Board activities. Stipends are available for members. Activities include:

  • Attending evening meetings every 3rd Monday of the month.
  • Preparing for monthly Board meetings.
  • Participating in Board-related events.
  • Participating in an optional subcommittee.
  • Participating in the annual Board retreat.

Qualified applicants will have an understanding of how environmental outcomes connect with institutionalized racism, health, education access, racial equity, access to jobs, and other inequities. Candidates should have experience with community organizing and a desire to build relationships and collaborate with government partners.

Apply!

Interested? Submit your application before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. The application will ask you to submit your resume and a short letter. View application details on the Board’s website at seattle.gov/gndob
